What we offer
Making It On My Own exists to empower young adults for life. Therefore, we do all we can to holistically add value to the environment of a young person, including their homes and their schools.
We aspire to and refer to the “Te Whare Tapa Wha” model, which was developed by Sir Mason Durie in 1984, Te Whare Tapa Whā is a Māori model of health and wellbeing.

It is a metaphor based on four pillars of a wharenui/meeting house. Our offerings focus on the mental/emotional and family/social aspects of this four-fold model. We are realistic that we can not achieve all aspects of well-being for a young person, therefore we encourage a young person to seek out other sources of input alongside MIOMO.
When we look after all four aspects, we look after our hauora/wellbeing.
